What is JAMB Cut-Off Mark?

JAMB cut-off mark is the minimum score that a candidate must obtain in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in order to be considered for admission into any tertiary institution in Nigeria.

The UTME is a computer-based test that is conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) every year for candidates who wish to pursue undergraduate programmes in various universities, polytechnics, monotechnics, and colleges of education in Nigeria.

The UTME consists of four subjects that are relevant to the candidate’s chosen course of study. The subjects are English Language (compulsory) and three other subjects from Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Government, Literature in English, etc.

The UTME is scored out of 400 marks, with each subject carrying 100 marks. The total score of a candidate is the sum of the scores obtained in the four subjects.

How is JAMB Cut-Off Mark Determined?

JAMB cut-off mark is determined by a number of factors, such as:

• The performance of candidates in the UTME. The higher the average score of candidates, the higher the cut-off mark.
• The availability of admission spaces in each institution. The more the admission spaces, the lower the cut-off mark.
• The competitiveness of each course. The more the demand for a course, the higher the cut-off mark.
• The policy meeting on admissions. This is a meeting where JAMB and stakeholders in the education sector (such as vice-chancellors, rectors, provosts, etc.) agree on the minimum cut-off mark for each category of institutions (universities, polytechnics, colleges of education) and each course.

What is the Approved JAMB Cut-Off Mark for Colleges of Education 2024/2025?

According to the policy meeting on admissions that was held on June 16, 2024, the minimum cut-off mark for colleges of education for the 2024/2025 academic session is 100.

This means that candidates who scored 100 and above in the UTME are eligible to apply for admission into any college of education in Nigeria.

However, this does not guarantee automatic admission, as each college of education may have its own specific cut-off mark and other requirements (such as post-UTME screening, O’level results, etc.) that candidates must meet before being offered admission.

Therefore, candidates are advised to check the cut-off mark and admission requirements of their preferred college of education before applying.
