UTME 2024: 260,000 Sat for Mock Exam, Says JAMB Registrar Oloyede

In a significant milestone, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) reported that over 260,000 candidates participated in the Mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (Mock UTME) held on Thursday, March 7. The Registrar/Chief Executive of JAMB, Prof Is-haq Oloyede, shared this information after monitoring the mock exam in various Computer-Based Test (CBT) centers across the nation.

The mock exam, conducted in 793 CBT centers nationwide, aimed to assess JAMB’s preparedness for the main Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), scheduled to commence on Friday, April 19, 2024. Prof Oloyede expressed satisfaction with the seamless execution of the exercise and praised the efforts of those involved.

In addition to the Mock UTME, Oloyede revealed that JAMB successfully administered recruitment examinations for the Nigeria Police on Wednesday. Despite a few incidents recorded during the Mock UTME in four centers, he assured the public that these issues would be promptly addressed.

Oloyede stated, “So far, so good, we are doing mock after mock. Today’s mock comes after yesterday’s recruitment for the Police Service Commission in 411 centers across the country. So far, we have about three or four places with issues, but we are trying to get over that.”

The JAMB boss disclosed that 1.98 million candidates have registered for the main 2024 UTME, with over 260,000 participating in the mock exam. He emphasized that the mock exam was designed to test the system and prevent it from turning into an additional examination.

“We are adequately ready for the exam. Today is a very special day for us. We know we are doing some internal revolution this year, which we were apprehensive of the workability. We can now say we have arrived at what we said to ourselves about six, seven years ago; we have been able to achieve it today,” Oloyede added.

JAMB’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT) consultant, Damilola Bamiro, highlighted the organization’s full engagement with all participating centers through JAMB’s Situation Room. This real-time interaction ensures swift issue resolution during the examination.

As JAMB awaits the release of the Mock UTME results, Oloyede expressed confidence in the overall preparedness of the examination body and disclosed that new mechanisms would be deployed to enhance the security of the exam system.

Students and stakeholders eagerly anticipate the main UTME scheduled for April 19, 2024, with the assurance of a robust and well-prepared examination process based on the successful conduct of the Mock UTME.
