Mock-UTME 2024: Mock-UTME holds Today, as JAMB asks candidates to come with ‘ordinary HB Pencil

In preparation for the upcoming Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reiterated its directive for candidates participating in the mock exam to use only an ordinary HB pencil for numerical analysis. The mock-UTME is scheduled for today, Thursday, March 7, 2024.

JAMB spokesperson, Dr Fabian Benjamin, clarified the board’s position in a statement released on Wednesday, addressing concerns from candidates and the general public regarding the use of HP pencils during the examination. The statement emphasized that only ordinary HB pencils are permitted for the mock-UTME and the main exam, slated for April 19, 2024.

“This clarification became necessary following the series of inquiries from candidates and the general public alike regarding whether HP pencils are permitted in the examination hall as a writing material,” the statement reads.

Candidates are strongly urged to adhere to the guidelines provided by JAMB, ensuring they bring only one ordinary HB pencil to their respective examination centers. In addition to the pencil directive, the statement reiterated the prohibition of any other writing materials during both the mock-UTME and the main examination.

As part of the efforts to maintain a standardized examination process, JAMB has consistently implemented stringent measures to curb malpractice and ensure fairness. Candidates are reminded to familiarize themselves with the list of prohibited items, which includes but is not limited to calculators, mobile phones, and any other electronic devices.

The mock-UTME serves as a preparatory exercise for candidates, offering them the opportunity to experience the examination environment and identify areas for improvement before the main UTME. The main examination, scheduled for April 19, is expected to be conducted across various centers nationwide, with millions of candidates vying for admission into tertiary institutions.

JAMB reassures candidates and stakeholders of its commitment to conducting a transparent, credible, and fair examination process. It advises candidates to stay updated on official announcements and guidelines to avoid any inconveniences during the examination period.

In conclusion, candidates are reminded to comply with the directive on the use of an ordinary HB pencil and the prohibition of other writing materials during the mock-UTME and the main UTME. JAMB wishes all candidates success in their examination endeavors and encourages them to approach the examination with confidence and preparedness.
