JAMB to Punish Candidates for Disruptive Parents During UTME

ABUJA – April 2nd, 2024. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Registrar, Prof. Is’aq Oloyede, has issued a stern warning to parents regarding their behavior during the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

In an interview with Grace Edema, Oloyede addressed the upcoming UTME and emphasized the need for a disruption-free environment. He highlighted the challenges posed by overzealous parents who interfere with the examination process.

Oloyede referenced the 2023 Mmesoma Ejikeme result forgery scandal, stating that JAMB’s procedures were vindicated. He shifted the focus to those who readily believed the accusations without verification.

The Registrar then directed his attention to Nigerian parents and their examination-day antics. He described a culture of entitlement and manipulation, where parents prioritize their own desires over the system’s integrity and the rights of other candidates.

Oloyede announced a new policy holding candidates accountable for their parents’ disruptive behavior during the UTME. He explained that parents found interfering with the exam process would result in sanctions against their children. Additionally, JAMB will delist any examination centers that allow unauthorized parental presence near testing areas.

Oloyede emphasized that these measures aim to prevent a repeat of situations where parental actions disrupt the entire examination schedule, causing delays and inconveniences for other students.
