JAMB Registrar: Students Need Digital Literacy to Succeed

The registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, has urged students to develop their digital skills and competencies in order to succeed in the 21st century.

Oloyede made this call on Thursday at the opening ceremony of the 2023 JAMB Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre Proprietors’ Stakeholders’ Meeting in Abuja.

He said that digital literacy is not only about using technology, but also about being able to function critically and effectively in a digitally enhanced environment.

He added that digital literacy is a mindset and attitude, not just a skill set, and that students need to be flexible, adaptable and lifelong learners to maintain relevant digital skills over time.

He said that JAMB is committed to promoting digital literacy among students and candidates, and that the board has adopted various measures to ensure that its examinations are conducted in a secure and transparent manner using CBT.

He said that the board has also introduced innovations such as the National Identification Number (NIN) requirement, the use of biometric verification, and the adoption of artificial intelligence to detect and prevent malpractice.

He commended the CBT centre proprietors for their partnership and cooperation with JAMB, and urged them to uphold the highest standards of quality and integrity in their operations.

He warned that the board will not hesitate to sanction any centre that violates the rules and regulations of JAMB, and that the board will continue to monitor and audit the activities of the centres.

He also advised the students and candidates to prepare adequately for the 2023 JAMB Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), which is scheduled to hold in June.

He said that there are many online resources and platforms that can help students improve their digital skills and knowledge.

He said that students should not rely on shortcuts or fraudulent means to pass the examination, but should work hard and study diligently.

He said that developing digital skills will not only help students to excel in JAMB, but also to pursue their academic and career goals in the future.
