JAMB Candidates Can Now Apply for Admission into Nigeria’s First Transport University

The Federal University of Transportation, Daura (FUTD), Katsina State, has announced that it is now listed on the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) portal, and that prospective students can apply for admission into its various programmes. The university, which is the first of its kind in Nigeria, was established by the former President Muhammadu Buhari to provide specialized education and training in the transport sector.

The pioneer vice-chancellor of the university, Professor Umar Adam-Katsayal, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the university offers courses in engineering, management, and planning related to transportation. He said that the admission requirements are five O’Level credits, including English and Mathematics, in not more than two sittings.

Some of the courses available at the university are:

  • B.Eng. Civil Engineering
  • B.Eng. Electrical and Electronics Engineering
  • B.Eng. Mechanical Engineering
  • B.Eng. Mechatronics Engineering
  • B.Eng. Railway Engineering
  • B.Eng. Highway Engineering
  • B.Sc. Aviation Management
  • B.Sc. Transport Management
  • B.Sc. Logistics and Supply Chain Management
  • B.Sc. Maritime Safety and Environmental Administration
  • B.Sc. Railway Transport Management
  • B.Sc. Sea Port and Dry Port Management
  • B.Sc. Inland Waterways Safety and Environmental Administration

The university also said that final-year engineering students from other universities in Nigeria can apply for transfer through JAMB. The university aims to produce graduates who can contribute to the development and innovation of the transport industry in Nigeria and beyond.

The university is one of the legacy projects of the former President Buhari, who laid the foundation stone for the institution in December 2019. The university is expected to commence academic activities in the 2023/2024 session.
