2024 UTME: JAMB Specifies Requirement Inside Examination Hall as Mock Holds Today

JAMB Eases Pencil Restrictions for 2024 UTME: HP Pencils Allowed for Numerical Analysis

In a recent announcement, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has provided clarity on the materials permitted inside the examination hall for the 2024 Mock-UTME, set to take place on March 7. Candidates are now allowed to use ordinary HP pencils specifically for numerical analysis, according to a statement released by Dr Fabian Benjamin, the Board’s Public Communication Advisor.

The decision to allow HP pencils for the examination comes after a surge in inquiries from candidates and the general public regarding the use of such writing materials during the test. Dr Benjamin addressed the issue in a statement released on Wednesday in Abuja.

“It should be noted that the Board had hitherto prohibited the use of pencils and other banned materials in view of the nefarious ends that these materials are put,” stated Dr Benjamin. However, he went on to confirm that for both the upcoming Mock-UTME and the main examination scheduled to commence on Friday, April 19, the Board has approved the use of ordinary HP pencils.

Emphasizing the importance of compliance, Dr Benjamin urged candidates to come into the examination hall with only one pencil, as specified, and to refrain from bringing any other prohibited items.

This announcement marks a shift in the Board’s policy, signaling a more lenient stance on the materials permitted for the examination. The decision to allow the use of HP pencils for numerical analysis suggests a consideration for candidates’ preferences and needs in tackling specific sections of the exam.

As candidates prepare for the Mock-UTME and the subsequent main examination, they are advised to stay updated on any additional instructions provided by JAMB. The Board continues to work towards creating a conducive and fair environment for all candidates, ensuring a smooth and transparent examination process.

With these developments, candidates can now approach the upcoming 2024 UTME with confidence, armed with the knowledge that they can utilize ordinary HP pencils for numerical analysis within the examination hall.
